In literacy we have been learning how to write explanation texts. We went back in time to perform TV reports about a new invention known as a 'remote control'. A magic invention that uses something called 'infa-red' to send invisible messages to an electronic device. Ask the children to explain...

Class Assembly
We did our second class assembly recently and it was a lot of fun. The children put together a performance about Neil Armstrong, bringing to life his adventures and showing everyone their amazing acting talents. Mr Burton described the show as "Superb, a must see for anyone with an interest in recent history."
Here are some photos of the children getting ready for their performance.

Ziggie and the Shadow
In literacy we have been learning a suspense story called Ziggie and the Shadow. We have made story plans, written diary entries and used drama to explore the character's feelings. Here's a short version of the story with the children's excellent freeze frames. They really bring the story to life!
One
blustery evening, Ziggie did not go home straight from alien school. It was not
a good idea to stay out late on the moon but Ziggie thought he was ok..
He liked being alone. Asteroid dust began to fall so he wrapped his coat tightly around him. All the aliens were going indoors for tea. He shouldn’t be out at this time of night but he wandered on, the dust fell heavier and heavier.
At that moment, a dark shadow slipped out from behind a huge rock and began to follow Ziggie. Nearer and nearer it came, He didn't even hear the footsteps behind him.
Ziggie screamed as his arms were pinned to his sides. A muffled voice whispered into his ear ‘You must come with me!’ Ziggie froze with fear.
‘No!’ he gasped. Then, whatever it was behind him let out a noise that was as loud as a space ship crashing on the moon! ‘Ha ha ha!’ laughed the voice.
Ziggie whirled round. It was his brother, ‘Mum says you’re late for tea.' They began to walk home. Ziggie thought about how lucky he had been. Supposing it wasn’t his brother - what then?

Measurement
This week we have been looking at different ways to measure. We have used balance scales, meter rulers and measuring jugs. Here we are using meter rulers to find the length of objects over a meter, then we used them to measure ourselves. See if you can do some measuring at home too..
Thanks to Shaye Li for the excellent photos!..
